What is

Myopia

Myopia makes faraway objects look blurry, and as it gets worse, even things close up can become unclear. It’s also called short-sightedness or near-sightedness. Myopia usually starts before age 10 and gets worse every few months in kids and teens. It happens because the eyes grow too quickly and become too long. Normally, the eyes grow steadily until the teenage years and then stabilize. But with myopia, they grow too fast, leading to ongoing vision deterioration and continued eye growth through the teenage and early adult years. In the past, myopia was corrected using glasses or contact lenses to make things clear when worn, but they don’t fix the myopia itself. These simple corrections, like single vision glasses or contacts, don’t protect against myopia getting worse.

What is

Myopia Control

Myopia control is a term used for treatments that aim to slow down myopia progression. These treatments include special glasses, soft contact lenses, ortho-k, and atropine eye drops. Myopia control is crucial for children because it’s the time when myopia tends to worsen rapidly. It’s also important for teenagers, though their vision may worsen at a slower pace. About half of teenagers stabilize their myopia progression by age 16, but the other half may continue to worsen, so it’s best for myopia control to continue into early adulthood. Myopia control and myopia management mean the same thing. They involve extra care for people with myopia, using treatments like glasses, contact lenses, or atropine eye drops to slow down the progression. Myopia management also includes discussing lifestyle and environmental factors that can trigger myopia progression and taking care of overall eye health.

Hoya Miyosmart

Using the special D.I.M.S. Technology, the lens corrects the visual defect across its entire surface and includes a ring-shaped treatment area to slow down myopia progression. This lens design alternates between focus and defocus areas, allowing you to have clear vision while managing myopia at the same time. It’s a non-invasive and exclusive technology for your comfort and eye health.

Essilor Stellest

A topography test maps the shape of the cornea, the front surface of the eye. It helps assess corneal irregularities, detect conditions like keratoconus, and guide contact lens fitting or refractive surgery. A non-invasive procedure, it provides valuable information for eye care professionals to determine appropriate treatments or interventions.

03

Ortho-k

Ortho-k lenses work to correct myopia by gently and temporarily flattening the cornea by a small, customized amount that matches the level of myopia. For higher levels of myopia, more corneal flattening is required to achieve the necessary correction. Flattening the cornea reduces its focusing power. Since myopia is caused by the eye’s focusing power being too strong, this corneal flattening effectively neutralizes the myopia. By bringing the focal point of light back onto the retina, ortho-k lenses help in correcting myopia, allowing objects to be seen clearly without the need for traditional glasses or contact lenses during the day.
